Once a month, The Edge of the Forest talks to a group of kids about their favorite books.

This month children's writer Lisa wrote in to Kelly Herold, Big A, little a, to report which books kids are loving at the moment in Nebraska.

Anna (12) likes the series by Scott Westerfeld, Uglies, Pretties & Specials.
"I liked them because they were highly suspenseful, taking place in the future.
All three include a little romance!" Anna picks Specials, the 3rd in the series,
as her favorite because of the awesome ending.

Alec (12): Adventures of Alfred Kropp, by Rick Yancey. He liked it because it was
an exciting adventure occurring in different parts of the United States and London.
He liked that it was a combination of medieval and modern tale.

Nicole (12): The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants, by Ann Brashares. She liked
how all the girls were different, but remained friends forever.

Gabriella (11): Gregory The Overlander, by Suzanne Collins, because of the
adventure, excitement and betrayal! Plus, there are giant cockroaches in the book!

John (11): The Odyssey, by Homer. John says since it was originally in
ancient Greek, "it provides me with a great challenge." I also like general Greek
	mythology and adventure.

Katie (10): House on the Gulf, by Margaret Haddix. Katie says it's a great mystery
and she wants to read the end so badly!

James (9): Mummies in the Morning, by Mary Pope Osborne, from the Magic Tree
House series. "It made me want to know about mummies and I found out a lot about the
	parts of a pyramid."

Mimi (9): Because of Winn Dixie. She did her book talk on it for State assessments.
She likes Opal's adventures. She likes the book because it's personal and funny.

Courtney (9): The Raven Master Secret, by Elvira Woodruff, because of all the
mysteries and the fact that she doesn't know what's going to happen next.

Lizzie (8): The Holiday Concert, by Andrew Clement. She likes the reality
of the story...that it all could actually happen to her in real life.

Collin (8): Junie B. Jones books (by Barbara Park) are his favorites because
Junie B. always gets into such trouble and says funny stuff!

Abby (8) loves the Junie B. Jones books because they're funny, easy to read and
there's a bunch of them! She also loves the Berenstain Bears books because
they are funny, easy to read and she learns lessons from the stories.

Paul (5) really likes the Henry and Mudge Series. He likes the dog's adventures
in them. His favorite one is Henry and Mudge:The Careful Cousin.

Courtney (5): Berenstain Bears books (by Jan & Stan Berenstain), especially
the Santa One. She likes them "because there is a brother and sister and a
	family like us."

Evan (5): Train Song, by Diane Siebert. He likes how the story makes a song
and he likes the pictures. "They look real" he says. Evan's mom says, "I love reading
it!" Evan also loves Katy and the Big Snow, by Virginia Burton. Evan says "there's
lots going on to look at and Virginia Burton stories are really good." He also loves
Thomas the Tank Engine books by Rev. Awdry.

Katie (3 1/2): The Day the Goose Got Loose, by Reeve Lindbergh, illus by
Steven Kellogg. Katie thinks the story and pictures are so funny! Great rhyming. This
family loves Steven Kellogg's funny pictures in all the books he illustrates. Some
other favorites...Magic School Bus books (they teach us a lot), The Dish
Ran Away with the Spoon, by Janet Stevens (great story and pictures, entertaining
for moms & dads too), Jan Brett's books (especially The Hat), with their
	beautiful pictures and entertaining stories.

Thank you, Lisa, for sharing the favorite books of Nebraska kids!
